The island has been declared biosphere reserve, and therefore provides an ideal place to relax and detox from pollution, sounds, stress: clean air, silence, sunlight, flowers, a plentiful nature all combine to create an ideal environment, both peaceful and regenerating.
Temperatures vary from 15° C to 25° C and on sunny days you can swim in the ocean all year round. The beaches are characterized by their black sand and are fully equipped, on some you can also surf.
The ocean bed is plentiful with a variety of fish, providing wonderful opportunities for immersions, as well as an ideal environment for the island's scuba-diving schools.
Constant temperatures provides ideal conditions for paragliding all year round.
Local cuisine is simple and wholesome, the traditional dish is "gofio", a polenta made with mixed cereals; also fresh goat cheese, the "papas arrugadas" (potatoes cooked in salt), served with "moyo" a red or green sauce prepared with peppers or local herbs, and "a la plancia" fish.
